Well, it's been a busy weekend in rescue, not just for me, but for everyone on the board. I'm sure there will be plenty of information forth coming about the rest of the activities, but this boy was my Saturday. Welcome Arthur to our rescue! He is a 12-14 month old Great Dane. We were contacted about him about a week ago, I just couldn't get to North Florida until yesterday. He comes to us from an Animal Control a few hours away. This AC does not have personnel experienced in handling giant breeds and especially one like Arthur that is terrified, untrained and lacking socialization skills (apparently my wheelhouse lately). This is another case of a concerned citizen reporting what they saw to Animal Control, AC went out to do a welfare check and the owners surrender the dog, claiming he's "unmanageable". He was terrified at AC and managed to buffalo them, acting like he was going to eat them. He came to me immediately in the yard and allowed me to put a collar on him, handle him and was giving kisses within 5 minutes. He is very much underweight, has had zero vetting and from the looks of things very little care in general. He allowed me to bath him immediately upon returning to the house, I could not believe how bad he smelled or how crusty his skin was. He is NOT available for adoption at this time. Once he has seen the vet, been neutered and gained a little weight we will reevaluate whether or not he is ready. He gets along with every one at the house, seeks attention and gives hugs and kisses.
Coming Soon!
Looking forward to being part of your family :)
