Jade is an extremely sweet, snuggly, and smaller Great Dane. Her healthy weight is about 110 pounds. She is completely housebroken, crate trained and is believed to have turned 5 in August, but she still plays like a puppy, knows how to fetch and tug a rope toy. She has only been with us a couple of weeks and has quickly learned sit, lay down, bang/play dead, and if you leave food in front of her and tell her to leave it, she will do so until you say OK, even if you leave the room. She does not like the vacuum and is skittish of brooms, but this is probably going to go away over time. She is not afraid of thunder or storms, but she does react lightly to unexpected loud noises i.e. construction tools, heavy trucks, and lawn equipment. She does great with male and female dogs and doesn't appear to have any prey drive. Jade is always looking for her next friend, person or animal including children. She is a great watch dog and will alert you to any strangers she sees or strange noises. She walks well on a leash at a medium pace, but only likes about a half mile walk. We cannot express enough how sweet she is; she loves to press her head against you for hugs and will let you pet her endlessly, but she is not pushy because you can tell her to go lay down and she will do so with little hesitation. Most of her training has been accomplished with love rather than treats. We have another dog who is pushy with attention and tries to steal attention from other dogs. Jade is very patient with him and shows no possessiveness or aggression. She does not shed or drool a lot, is not food aggressive, and hasn't shown any separation problems. We like to walk her about ½ mile per day, but she could probably go less often and could go longer distances if it wasn't so hot.
Jade entered rescue as an owner surrender. She was in need of complete vetting, she was spayed and had a large cyst removed and has recovered nicely with seemingly no ill effects. The pathology on the cyst came back negative.
Well hello everyone! My name is Jade and I am very pleased to meet you. I have had a lot of change in my life recently. My family brought me to these nice people when they could no longer keep me. I stayed at someplace called the vet where there were lots of other dogs and strange smells, I was a little scared for a while. One morning they gave me medicine and I went to sleep for a while and when I woke up, I was sore, but the pain where the big lump was wasn't there any more. My foster parents are wonderful, they've taken such great care of me and I feel so much better. They tell me it's time for me to find my forever parents. I love to snuggle and just be by your side. I can't wait to meet you!
