As a joint effort between Mastiff Rescue of Florida and Florida Giant Dog Rescue Rubio was saved from being euthanized at a local shelter. He was an owner surrender to the shelter and was out of time. We couldn't let that happen. He had a hernia and needed to be neutered, surgeries the shelter provided prior to his release. As you can see from the photos, the shelter staff loved him. This handsome 2 year old Bullmastiff is being fostered with me out at the rescue ranch. He has done beautifully with most of the dogs in foster, he is selective of the males, as his neuter is still very fresh. He has a sweet and loving personality. Yes, he is missing an ear. According to the surrendering owner, the ear had a cyst and was removed, that is all we know about that. The loss of the ear does not seem to effect him in any way. In MY opinion he was never socialized and has had no training which we will work on. He is afraid of the world, but willing to explore. I doubt he'd been in a car prior to the ride to the shelter, because he is afraid, but willing and I believe he will learn quickly that life is a blast. We will work on the training while he is in foster. He loves his toys the Jolly Ball is a favorite. He will need a strong owner that can provide training, rules, boundaries and structure. He is typical of most Mastiff breeds stubborn, determined, extremely loyal and loving with his human. He will require an owner with giant breed, preferably Mastiff experience to help make him the best boy he can be. Rubio is an AWESOME dog waiting for his forever home! Little is known about his history prior to coming into rescue. Supposition is that he may have been used as a breeding dog and surrendered when they were done with him.
